Update (3/29/08): WordPress 2.5 has been released! Check out my extensive, updated WordPress 2.5 features list.
The release date for WordPress 2.5 is March 10! Here’s a sneak-peak of some of the planned features:

New admin interface — An overhaul of the one we’ve had since version 2.0. The new one looks sort of like a cross between the version 2.0 blue interface and ye olde version 1.5 gray scheme.

Widget-Based Dashboard — Finally, Dashboard-editing support!

Built-in avatar support — Using Automattic’s own Gravatar service, of course.

Tag Management — Now there will be an admin interface for managing your blog’s tags, presumably similar to the one for managing categories.

Full Text Feeds — “By popular demand, feeds now include the content after the ‘more’ tag when full text feeds are selected.”

Automatic Plugin Upgrade — Whoopee! Now if we could just have WordPress update itself automatically too (without the need for extra plugins), we’d be in great shape.

With the automatic update for wordpress feature idea there should be a “Do you want to?” every time. I don’t. Yes, I would love it to do the upgrade, but only if I say go. The reason is I don’t trust X.0.0 version numbers. Even X.0 is risky. I am not in a hurry to update. Stable software is more important than the latest features, even security updates aren’t important enough to make me want to do a X.0.0 upgrade.
Can’t believe they’re still calling the Links section “Blogroll”!
@Walter: Yes, a pre-upgrade confirmation would definitely be a good idea! The security fiasco with version 2.1.1 in particular showed the potential danger of upgrading too soon.
@Anthony: Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think the “Blogroll” section will be renamed back to “Links” in Version 2.5. I agree, I didn’t like the Blogroll terminology either.
