In this post I’ll review the Contact Form ][ plugin that I use on WordPress Expert at the time of this writing. (And yes, the plugin's name has two square brackets ][ instead of two letter I's).
Here's an overview of the plugin's pros and cons:
Pros
-
Simple to implement -- Just put the phrase [CONTACT-FORM] on a post or page where you want the contact form to appear.
The plugin also adds a QuickTags button to the Code editor that will insert the string for you, although the button doesn't appear to show up in WordPress 2.5.
-
Message customization -- The plugin allows you to specify the success and failure messages that display upon contact form submission.
-
Spam deterrence -- The plugin won't allow messages that include links, HTML, or URLs, which makes your contact form useless for spamming. (The link filter can be disabled if you need to allow visitors to send URLs, although this will leave you susceptible to contact form spam).
Cons
-
Can't customize fields -- If you want input fields beyond Name, Email, Subject, and Message, this plugin might not be for you.
-
Multiple forms not supported -- Although you can add your contact form to any post or page, you can't customize each one individually -- they all use the same set of options. Though for someone like me who just wants a single "Contact" page, this isn't a big deal.
Conclusion
If you want a simple contact form without requiring fancy features like custom form fields or multiple contact forms, the Contact Form ][ plugin is a good choice.
