Great list of things to consider... but how about;

8 - Does the theme designer offer updates? - so that your site/blog will be as 'future proof' as possible?

I have known of issues before whereby people had either plugins of themes that they loved, then when they upgraded to a newer version of wordpress, either some aspect of the theme didn't function properly, or there was some sort of wierd essoteric crash with a plugin...

Just a thought ;-)

Sure, these are excellent points. But not to be confused with getting good content on the site.

I've seen tons of sites with heavy traffic, and great visitor retention that rely on nothing more than the plain ol Kubrick theme.

I think as all seo experts say... content is king. You could have the most compliant, snazzy theme working for your site and have 10 visitors each week. And in the other hand you could have a table driven old-school site that gets a couple thousand visits a day. Themes can only do so much for your site.

So yeah pick a good theme... but pick even better content.
